User experience is paramount at every level. Users include staff, the patient, the patients' family members, and the many other people who populate the facility.
Health care facilities are possibly the most heavily regulated of all built environments. Among building types, they are the most costly to change and the most constrained by often conflicting needs of multiple constituencies. With all of these demands imposed, human considerations so often receive secondary attention in the spaces where care is provided. Despite the rigorous demands imposed on their design, care spaces frequently impose inefficiency on the functions they are meant to support. We believe this does not have to be the case.
